Catching up with Jaime
Hello there JSI followers! We are so excited to share with you, Under the Palm Leaves, our newest blog series. We thought this would be a fun way to share everything from James Studio's best design advice to fashion staples to lifestyle tips and tricks. What better way to start this off than getting to know our founder and lead designer, Jaime Moore. We sat down with Jaime and talked about all things personal and business related. Q: Where do you live?
A: My husband, pup named Ryder, and I have lived in Hingham, MA for four years.
Q: How long have you been an interior designer?
A: Four years, but this has been a passion of mine since I was little. I finally took the leap and took classes at Boston Architectural School four years ago and knew I was doing what I was meant to be. Q: What made you want to go out on your own?
A: I was very fortunate to have my previous boss take a chance on me when I was a newbie. I learned so much from her, but at the four year mark I felt it was time to move on. I really wanted to see if I could make it on my own. Q: What was the hardest thing about opening up your own business? A: Getting Organized! I hit the ground running and I felt like I couldn’t keep up. It’s important to set a schedule for both appointments and office days, and that didn’t happen in the beginning. Q: What is your favorite thing about owning your own business?
A: I love the freedom and everything that comes with it. It’s nice to be able to be in charge of how you want your company to be run. Q: Can you describe your personality? A: I feel like I’m pretty low key! Q: Describe your personal style?
A: It depends on the season. In the summer, I would say coastal meets boho. I love a good patio dress. Banana leaves are always a summer staple.
Winter is more classic. I tend to wear grey, black, and navy and let the accessories be the pop.
Q: Describe your personal interior design style?
A: My personal interior style is Palm Beach meets Ralph Lauren. It’s little pops of color with classic pieces tying it together.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do when not working?
A: Another seasonal answer! In the summer I love to go to the beach for the full day with a good book.In the winter, I am a home body. I love a chilly Saturday or Sunday where I can cook something delicious and curl up on the sofa with a really sappy Hallmark movie (they are cheesy for sure, but oh so feel good!). Q: What is a random fun fact? A: The year after I graduated college I was a Boston Bruins Ice Girl. I grew up figure skating and it was a really cool job to have. I got to wear figure skates on the Garden’s ice during a hockey game. If a toe pick messed up the ice, it was a $10,000 fine to the Bruins Organization. Thank goodness I never had an issue!
