Catching Up With Michelle

On the blog today we have our very own new (ish!) designer, Michelle!

We are SO beyond thrilled that Michelle joined the team this past spring and she has proven time and time again what a talented person and designer she is. She makes both days on the road and in the office that much more energetic and fun.

Michelle was thrown right into the swing of JSI from the beginning. She has taken on many clients of her own and has shown how she can literally (and I mean literally) handle anything and everything with grace, ambition and a fabulous set of design eyes. Not to mention- she has FOUR kids and does not drink caffeine... like EVER. A superwoman for sure.

I have loved getting to work with Michelle and one of my favorite things is the camaraderie we have all developed after getting to be in an office together after a year. She comes in with a smile and an unmatched energy, ready to tackle her to do list and stop whatever she is doing to help anyone that is in need. Did I mention she does this all without caffeine?

We (with the help of a trusted journalist bestie) asked Michelle some fun, get-to-know-her questions but not in the boring type of way. We promise these are some fun and juicy questions!

1) What was your favorite childhood outfit?

My mom used to take me back-to-school shopping at the mall every year (yes, the mall...I'm really old). For some reason I've always remembered my outfit for the first day of 5th grade...it was a pink and green plaid button down shirt with a coordinating v-neck sweater vest and khaki pants (which were probably tight-rolled...eek!). The outfit paired perfectly with my permed hair and hair sprayed bangs.

2) What is the worst look you’ve ever bought into for fashion or is there a look you regret?

Please see the response to #1

3) What is your favorite design choice you made in your home and what is your least favorite design choice you’ve made in your past?

When we bought our house a few months ago, there was a small sitting room between the kitchen and dining room that made that area of the house feel very closed in. We decided to open the space up so the flow was much more open between rooms, added molding around all the walls/ceiling, and painted the room a moody blue/gray. The "cocktail room" is now one of our favorite rooms in the house.

The worst design choice I've made in the past is when I tried to use a sheet to recover a couch we bought from the Salvation Army for the house my friends and I lived in our senior year of college. I didn't know much about fabric back then but I did know that even a flimsy sheet would be better than that horrid brown and orange floral wool.

4) What is your go-to cocktail?

I love a good dirty vodka martini (but oddly don't really like green olives so go figure)

5) What do you love to do in your free time?

I don't really know what free time is or what to do with myself whenever I find that I have down time. As a working mom with 4 kids I spend most of my time running 5 minutes late to everything while trying to stay sane. In the mythical world of free time I would love reading a good book or listening to live music

6) What do you love most about interior design?

I'm loving the opportunity to work with clients to understand their overall design aesthetic and bring it all together in a way that complements their lifestyle. I'm so honored to be welcomed into clients' homes and working with them as a trusted partner to create a space that they love and will build memories in.

7) A celebrity you would want to have dinner with?

I would love to throw a dinner party with Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Emily Blunt, and John Krasinski...did I mention that in that mythical world of free time I am an amazing cook and they're my best friends?

8) A random fun fact

If you happen to drive by me when I'm in the car, you will likely see me singing very loudly (and very badly) at the top of my lungs. One of my greatest joys as a mother is that I have passed this love of very loud, terrible singing on to my kids so we happily rock out in the car together.
